HOMELAND

our inland waters slide
on their loose stones
slippery underfoot

knobs and floodplains
clefted rocks clefts of ravines
splitting out into the land

and on the underside of ridges
sedimentary rockbeds shave off
in flakes and plates and in time

make overhang caves some with
a trickle of water over the front
which freezes in winter into

lumpy ice white sheets hung
from the stone edges
to catch the sun and air
