AMONGST US

paper burns
water flees over the falls
a hill ages over eons
into a plain

fire gravity time
are all one thing that
slips amongst us day and night
taking without rage

ink stills as it dries
my hand when it passes
the last word to the page
has climbed to where

the poem has leveled
flat as a sheet
and everything that could be
in the poem is taken by it
