I'M HAPPY

THE NIGHT OF THE BIG STORM

the neighbor boy with candles
seeks our matches
where his parents are
there is no returning (for now)
and the storm is changing into night
and the night is bringing no comfort

boy you must call your parents out loud
we will stand behind you
one of us puts a hand where
your shoulder blades join
there is no concern like ours
in the night the storm on the roads
or zinging through the wires

courage! we are the freaks next door
and your parents will never know
we helped you call
there is no heat in the stove
no dog in the yard
but we are too crazy to be afraid
