EXAMPLES

slipped on the carpet at the turn of the stairs
down! fast surprise--reached out a hand
and did brake myself though the weight of
my body stretched upper arm shoulder and
right side of my chest painfully--but I was safe!

just like a few days later waking too early
in the dark started a fire made coffee read book
waited for early morning news stretched out
on sofa but no luck! nothing made me either
fully awake or tired enough to sleep again
the dawn was delayed stars stayed bright
seemed the sky just got blacker news passed
coffee drunk book still in front of me then
surprise I fell asleep 10 a.m. first nap of the day
so sweet to be unconscious and rest while
everyone else was showing energy scuttling
about at their jobs and making choices and all

or the last couple of days somehow twice it was
appropriate to tell the story about the only thing
about his fatal diagnosis that made my father mad
he'd just bought a new pair of dress shoes
and surprise! you've got liver cancer makes me
so mad I paid ninety dollars for those shoes
and only wore them twice
