YESTERDAY

one comes to my door
the papers in his hand
I must go to the bankers
all the usual forms

every common chance to lie
will be given me
and so many depend on
how I am believed

no way to avoid disturbance
as I tell you this
I purchased a year
I pulled copies from a machine

first the hurry then
filling my mouth with fruit
closing my eyes buried
in the late distant empire

though mistaken in what
I thought would happen
we must come together
for a meal and talk

about the strain of helping
those with too much
and now it's back
to having my own life

someone to love
many to love
world of excited
conversation cut short

moon broke through
his beams were tragic
am I believed
or only half believed
