OUT OF RESPECT

Albert Ayler's jukebox
kept playing the same tune
the side wore out its grooves
a legend was forming
as its ridges smoothed out

the lights on the jukebox
also simplified
a heroic pattern

where in all this had the horn got to
it wasn't following directions
there was a chance it would
lose its way and sink
into the sea we left long ago

best to send the jukebox
back to its ancestors
who in fact were standing up
out of respect

preparing a place of utmost honor
that could take
what the river of sound delivers
