OUR HOUSES

the town the fields the woods

the blue months' short days
a world defined by its hungers

out of the quiet dark
a light agitates
its way towards us

our houses are a collection
of things we never got around to
enlivened with mice

when the sun is low
and the wind so fanatic

the roof has no errors
the corners' old dirt is secure

a secrecy of frost surrounds us
