YELLOW CREEK

each spring the plowing
turned up arrowheads and beads
I drifted my hand
through a box of them

the neighbors remained in place
none of the names went away
the nineteenth century
stayed inside the twentieth

it may have worn it out
and still stayed for all I know
I never check on it and only ever
imagine going to Yellow Creek again
