THEORY OF NOTHING

afternoon

I close my eyes and is it sleep that comes
or thought

thought like a mountain
sleep like a mountain

from my mountainous sleep I am thrown into
the well of thought

a long fall with much twisting

wind still blows strong I hear it more clearly
with eyes closed

the floods are passing downstream

last night the storm prepared itself
and tested our readiness to receive

by this afternoon it has forgotten us

behind my closed eyes a theory is being formed

it is about nothing it relies on nothing
for validation

how did nothing begin
where is it going
why is there nothing instead of something

the theory of nothing rises
like a mountain from the midst of the sea

or like a person tossing off his slumbers

the storm the floods the wind are nothing
once they are gone

when they come again where is nothing
