MYTH

Everyone is shouting
and the Chief goes down

inside the place he told us
never to mention.

In the heart of the shouting
there is a worm of silence.

Inside the worm there is
a bug of unhappiness.

Addiction to composure.
Addiction to disaster.

Grief gave us a mirror
to hold the world still--

this was our language
before speech garbled us.

Having broken the mirror
we must shout and bury

beyond our own reach
what we wish to give.
