MORNING INCIDENT

Getting up to let the cat in I felt myself growing weak,
and I folded to the floor. Halfway down, I could no longer
command my limbs: my mind let go of my body, and I sank
helplessly, my naked hip brushing against a sharp corner of
the wall. I lay curled on my side, not cold though I had
nothing to cover me, not afraid though I could not raise
myself up, thinking the cat will have to wait but I am not
dying, though dying must be like this a little, and I will
be naked then too.
