COMPANY

there is a quiet before I speak
that holds all I will say
all I could say but prefer to keep in silence
and that for which I will never find words

in this quiet I defeat loneliness
for all the versions of myself the world will never see
have gathered at a table
made of the places I will never visit
to share a meal of possibilities that are really endless

and one sits there in that serious and carefree company
that gathering of the most intimate and strange
who listens and watches never touching the food
smiling slightly now and again
never breaking out of his silence
his quiet which contains so much
