GUIDE FROM THE PERPLEXED

this is to let you know
there is at least one person in here
frightened drawn out in ecstasy
loved wet loved dry
heartbroken enraged sick all day
trying not to think and thinking
all night helpless with anticipation

privileged to another's body
shaking in his own
capable of anything and trying not to
helpless foolish striking back
lying down standing up
at peace at last or maybe
just exhausted

strain of muscles ache of eye
the hunger need and escape from it
last one left the others gone
beyond recovery and no object
will console no lamb bleats soft
enough not to startle any in this wrecked
home to all who can make do make up
