Listen!
ADVENTURE
pebble your adventure
has continued into my shoe
I can decide how far to carry you
based on when I choose
to end my discomfort
only yesterday it seems
you were a mountain looting
the sky for clouds and snow
you let the meltwater
dribble off and received
in return the ancestral spirits
those inhabitants of foothills
addressed to the shining summit

and now look at me!
tumbling from his shoe
when he shakes it over the gutter
swept away with the others--
but don't count me out yet!
I know I can hang on to make it
down to a grain of sand
like my grandfathers
or to become dust troubling his eyes
or even to be that particle in his food
traveling past his gut
to strengthen his bonesnext poem >>
