ACCOUNT OF MY DAYS
Sequence: 4
NEW TUBES
plugging in the 1955 Gibson amp
with its new tubes and playing through it
a sound out of an age I lived in
as a child ignorant, fearful, loving
in my cupped hands the harmonica
I hold it to me like ripe fruit
or a drink of water I purse my lips
for an aching wind I shake
the pit of my belly to increase
its sorrow I open my ears to 1955
and the unfinished world I
get all the way through the changes
I am on the turnaround now the turnaround
and I ride it for all it's worth
