SUMMER ENDING SOUNDS cicada on a willow branch this hot time is his time from every tree a song like his buzzes it makes us so happy we are lazy and wait we will outlive the cicadas' summer they will outlive our civilization each has his natural luck this one sings as a jewel would sing if it rose from folds of stone to fly news of earth's long life as far up as the branches our thin complaints paused by song rise again when it's over as vapors rise to join in clouds and make the eventual rain
